The picture is so you can see how large the item is relative to a key. It'll be mailed in a small white envelope. So, there's a story behind this crane... Her name is Snow. And I'm not just selling a folded piece of paper, I'm selling the closest thing to an experience and hope that I can. I made her one Friday evening while thinking about the tuition payments for my sister. You see, she is a brilliant young woman with great potential, albeit great naivety. She started college not too long ago and has 2 years left until she's finished with her undergrad. Her belief in the goodness of humans drew her to spend so much time helping her so-called "friends" with all of their day-to-day activities that she found less and less time for her own self and her own studies. Needless to say, she is now paying for it; quite literally with her two jobs (one full-time, one part-time). Long story short, her grades plummeted and the scholarships that she earned in her freshman year have all been revoked. Actually, I lied. The state did review her case and after several petitions and letters, she has been awarded a grand total of $48 "applicable for school and school related expenses." Truth be told, this was going on for a while now. She kept it a secret from our parents and me because they haven't successfully found a job since 2001 and further financial problems do not help. From my end, I have been working very, very hard to try to get her through her undergrad degree and have even moved to Virginia for different opportunities and no longer work in retail. I know that one day, she will be an indispensable doctor successfully performing that miraculous surgery that otherwise had a 5% mortality rate. I have already seen her personally save a high school student whose leg was run over by a jeep. Unfortunately, heroes do not earn scholarships here; that is, unless they earn a more coveted 3.0+ cumulative gpa. How is this related to Snow? Because making origami cranes to be a companion is the only thing I know how to do to help. Because I believe good things can happen to good people. Because if given the knowledge and the training, she could do more than save another high-school student's life, she could save a mother, a father, an aunt, or an uncle. And she could save them-- each and every day.
